I’m glad you liked my post on H’s Hand-painted First Birthday dress. Missed it? Here’s the link. As promised, today’s post is going to be about the H’s Big Birthday Party. Like any other excited mommy, even I had bog plans about my girl’s first birthday but the fact that we were planning it in Mysore (her grandparent’s home), was a big challenge for me. First, the distance and secondly, the language barrier made it real tough for me to plan things the way I like, nonetheless, the final outcome turned out be awesome.

Theme & Decor

Planning began with scouting for the theme. There’s was a challenge here too! We were celebrating two birthdays together – H’s and her cousin L’s as they were born just 5 days apart. I didn’t want to go for the typical Chota Bheem, Chutki, Princess, Spiderman etc as the kids were too small to have a favourite cartoon character. So, the theme had to be gender neutral and something that’s close to the heart of both the kids. Hence, I settled for the cutesy ‘Rubber Ducky’. Both of them love to play with their yellow duckies while bathing, so I knew what is going to be the theme. It would have been much easier to pick up a customised theme offered by the decorator that our venue had provided us, but I wanted it to be my way.

So, when I got hold of the decorator (Vinod) from Fortune JP Palace, Mysore just a day before the party, I doled out all that was on my mind about the theme. He couldn’t do everything in the short period of time, but managed to give us a beautiful set up. A lot of balloons in yellow and blue were also used to deck up the place.

Thanks to a cousin, we designed the invitation card and other birthday stationery in a couple of hours. Having an in-house designer is a bliss! We had a great time designing the stuff over rounds of creamy pasta ;P

Cake

When it comes to a birthday party, the cakes the center stage. I tried really hard to find a home baker in Mysore but failed. However, during my search I ended up making a great list of designer cake shops in Mumbai and Bangalore. As suggested by extended family, we got this beautiful two tier cake in rubber duck theme done by Dolphin Bakers in Mysore. They did a commendable job at a very short notice.
